Smart Lock Battery Life and Emergency Power: What Distributors Should Know

Dead batteries are the most common after-sales question for smart locks. Explaining power options clearly at the point of sale prevents most of them.

Two power approaches

AA batteries

The B6, B36, B7 and T6S handle locks use four AA batteries. The product pages state about one year of use under normal use. Replacement is easy and AA cells are sold everywhere.

Rechargeable battery

Dual-screen models use a 4200 mAh rechargeable battery. The HP-01 page quotes 3-8 months of use or one year on standby, with a low-battery reminder. Video and screens use more power than simple handle locks, so charge habits matter.

Low-battery warnings

Locks give a voice or light warning, and Wi-Fi models can push an alert to the app. Dual-screen models list a low-battery reminder in their specifications. Encourage customers to react to the first warning.

Emergency access

  • Mechanical key: every model keeps a key backup.
  • USB emergency power on the outside panel of handle locks: connect a power bank and unlock with a code or fingerprint.
  • Type-C emergency power on the dual-screen series.

Tips for distributors

  1. Sell spare AA batteries with handle locks.
  2. Keep the mechanical keys with the owner, not inside the home.
  3. Teach customers to test the USB or Type-C emergency route once.
  4. For rentals, add battery checks to the turnover checklist.

Temperature

The A60S and A20S specification pages list a fingerprint operating temperature of -20 to 55 °C. The B65S lists -25 to 50 °C. Check the range against your climate.
