Smart lock buyers spend most of their time on features, but fit is decided by a metal part most people never see: the lock body, also called the mortise or mortice lock. Here is a plain-language guide to the bodies we supply.
Free tool: enter your backset and centre distance in the Lock Body Finder to see which standard your door matches.
What is a lock body?
The lock body is the box mounted inside the door edge. It holds the latch and deadbolt that move when you unlock the door. The smart lock panels and handles on both sides of the door drive this body through a spindle and, on many models, an electronic clutch or motor.
How the numbers are usually read
Many bodies are named by two measurements: the backset (distance from the door edge to the spindle or cylinder centre) and the centre distance between the spindle hole and the cylinder hole. By this convention 6068 means a 60 mm backset and a 68 mm centre distance, and 6085, 6090 and 5072 are read the same way. Labels can vary between factories, so always check with a drawing or photo.
The bodies in our range
| Body | Used in | Models |
|---|---|---|
| 68 | Fully automatic locks, premium CNC series, handle locks | A60S, AC38S, T6S, B7 |
| 5050 | Wooden-door handle locks | B6, B36 |

Rear lock options
Fully automatic models can change the rear lock to 6085, 6090 or 5072 on request, and the AC series offers a CNC-engraved rear lock. The B7 can use a true mortise body or a bottom-insert body designed to fit many door types.
How to check fit in three steps
- Photograph the door edge, the faceplate and, if possible, the body outside the door.
- Measure the door thickness, backset and centre distance.
- Note the handing (left or right) and the cylinder type.
Send these to us on WhatsApp and we will confirm the model and body. The full table is on our lock body compatibility page.
